Russia lived up to the expectations today by producing the leaders in each qualification event today, and so ensuring a dominant performance in their quest for the team title which combines both junior group and senior individual scores. With an advantage of 10 points, the Russian ladies were crowned team champions. And the juniors picked up a second gold medal for their achievements in the all-around. With 13.0, they posted the highest difficulty of all routines with 5 ribbons, easily taking the lead ahead of Belarus and Italy for the all-around silverware and ahead of Israel and Belarus to advance into the apparatus final.
The senior gymnasts competed with clubs and ribbon. Dina Averina posted the highest score of the competition so far for an extremely difficulty clubs routine (d-score 14.7), taking the lead ahead of her twin Arina and Bulgaria’s Katrin Taseva with more than a point and a half. With ribbon, reigning World Champion Aleksandra Soldatova ruled, overtaking Dina’s score, with Taseva again in third place.
Israel’s Nicol Zelikman continued her strong competition as she qualified for all 4 apparatus finals. Taseva, her teammate Boryana Kaleyn and Belarussians Anastasia Salos & Katsiaryna Halkina qualified to three finals each.
