Bulgaria’s golden on final day of #Tokyo2020

Today, after 16 days of thrilling action, the Ariake Gymnastics Centre hosted the final competition of these postponed 2020 Olympic Games. The top 8 rhythmic groups first performed their 5 balls routines, then their 3 hoops and 2 pairs of clubs exercise with the combined score determining the ranking.

The Bulgarian group featuring Simona Dyankova, Stefani Kiryakova, Madlen Radukanova, Laura Traets and Erika Zafirova, qualified in first place and got off to the best start as well. Their 47.550 with 5 balls outscored ROC’s 46.200 while Belarus sat in third place with 45.750. Posting 44.550 for a beautiful second routine, the Bulgarian group watched in tension to see the result of the ROC group. Anastasia Bliznyuk, Anastasia Maksimova, Angelina Shkatova, Anastasia Tatareva and Alisa Tishchenko gave a fabulous display for 44.200 to finish second.

A historic moment for Bulgaria as they win their first ever Rhythmic Gymnastics Olympic title!

After placing 4th at the Rio Olympics, Italy’s Farfalle, their nickname meaning Butterflies, clinched the bronze medal with a dramatic 3 + 2 performance, Well done Martina Centofani, Agnese Duranti, Alessia Maurelli, Daniela Mogurean and Martina Santandrea!

China looked delighted with their performances, which left them in fourth place. Belarus ended 5th with Israel 6th, Ukraine 7th and the host nation Japan 8th.
