The international structure
Under the roof of World Gymnastics (FIG), the world of gymnastics is divided in five continental unions. As representative of the interests of the European continent with its 50 member federations, European Gymnastics is the largest of these continental unions.
The structure of European Gymnastics
The highest decision-taking authority of European Gymnastics is the General Assembly which meets as a general rule every uneven year during the European Gymnastics Congress. The General Assembly is composed of delegates of the 50 European Gymnastics member federations. As a general rule it elects every four years (the year after the Summer Olympic Games) the 19 members of the Executive Committee as well as the members of the Control Authority and the President of the Medical Commission.
Additional authorities, the members of eight Technical Committees and the Medical Commission, are elected every four years by the Executive Committee.
The Executive Committee is composed of the President and three Vice-Presidents (who are the four members of the Presidential Board) as well as seven Executive Committee members and the Presidents of eight Technical Committees. It is European Gymnastics decision-taking body for resolutions outside of the General Assemblies' responsiblity and in charge of the strategic planning. The Executive Committee carries out decisions taken by the General Assembly and controls that Statutes and Regulations are being respected.
The Technical Committees are responsible for sports-technical matters of the eight European Gymnastics disciplines, Men's Artistic Gymnastics, Women's Artistic Gymnastics, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Trampoline Gymnastics, Acrobatic Gymnastics, Aerobic Gymnastics, TeamGym and Gymnastics for All.
All organisational and administrative tasks and the daily work are carried out by the European Gymnastics head office in Lausanne (Switzerland) under the management of the General Director.
You can consult the current European Gymnastics Statutes >> here under "rules". These Statutes will continuously be updated with all modifications being decided by the General Assembly.
