Highlights of #TeamGym2026

The 16th edition of the European Championships in TeamGym was held in Espoo, Finland where the very first European TeamGym competition, then known as Euroteam, took place 30 years ago. 608 athletes from 16 countries were represented: Austria, Azerbaijan, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Great Britain, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal and Sweden.

Enjoy our look back at all the action of this spectacular 4-day event, courtesy of our 6 highlights … as usual in no particular order!

Danemark Men’s Team

The competition came to a spectacular close with the Men’s Team final. The gymnasts delivered an incredible battle, treating the crowd to a fantastic show across all three apparatus. Denmark once again stood out, two years after claiming the title in Baku. Outstanding individual performances helped the team achieve excellent scores on tumble (21.650) and trampet (21.750), securing their place at the top of European TeamGym.

Sweden in gold

In Espoo, the Swedish national anthem rang out four times during the finals, much to the delight of the numerous fans who came to cheer on their team. Sweden claimed four gold medals, two in the senior categories (Mixed Team and Women’s Team), along with two more in the junior finals (Men’s Team and Women’s Team). This is proof that Swedish TeamGym has a bright future ahead, and that Sweden will be a team to watch at upcoming international competitions.

Great Britain juniors mixed

Mixed Team top qualifier Great Britain improved on their Wednesday qualification performance, increasing their total score by a full mark to 52.000. After claiming bronze in Baku in 2024, Great Britain this time reached the top step of the podium in Espoo, for the 16th European Championships in TeamGym.

First medal for Italy

Italy’s Junior Women’s Team won a historic silver medal — the first-ever medal in this category for Italy — at the 2026 European TeamGym Championships in Espoo. The Italian girls made a strong impression, including with the highest score on Floor (18.050), which secured them a place on the second step of the podium.

The Shooting star goes to…

Anna Pekarcikova’s TeamGym journey is one of resilience and determination. After winning 10 national titles with Bohemians Praha and representing Czechia at the European Championships in 2016 and 2018, she stepped away from the sport to focus on her medical studies. After graduating in 2025, she made a remarkable comeback despite serious health challenges, fighting to earn her place at the 2026 Europeans.

Connor Wharram’s TeamGym journey is one of longevity and commitment. Since making his international debut in 2010, he has competed at nine European Championships, helping Great Britain win its first Senior Mixed medal and title in 2021 and 2022. A two-time TeamGym All Star, he returned from a serious foot injury in 2026 to secure another place at the Europeans.
