The European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships will be held in Minsk, Belarus, from May 1st till 3rd. The competition takes place at “Minsk Arena”, the main sports arena of the Republic of Belarus. After the transformation of the arena in Competition and Warm-up zones, the total capacity for spectators is 6500. On the media stand there are 250 seats for commentators and written press. A pedestrian subway leads from the competition hall to the skating stadium which is being transformed into a training hall. The ice will be replaced by 7 warm-up carpets. A very pleasant feature of these Championships is that the sports arena and the delegations’ accommodation are located within only a 5 to 10 minutes’ walk.
The Republic of Belarus hosts the European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships for the second time. The first European Championships were held in Minsk in 2011. Athletes from 35 countries took part in the competition four years ago. This year already 38 countries have applied, a record for the European Championships! More than 80 senior gymnasts plan to perform. They compete in qualifications -which also serve as a team final- and apparatus finals. More than 150 junior gymnasts from 26 countries will compete, in group exercises only.
The Organising Committee is chaired by Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus, Mrs. Kachanava Natallia.
