On day 2 of these Trampoline Europeans, the senior team medals were awarded. Host nation Russia claimed victory in 3 of the 5 finals today. Denmark set the bar high in men’s tumbling with Russia relying on its last gymnast, Aleksandr Lisitsyn, to outperform their rivals. Their female compatriots suffered early mishaps but managed to end on a strong note with Viktoria Danilenko taking the team to silver-medal position behind the mighty French team and ahead of Belgium.
In Double Mini-Trampoline, the Russian line-up featured big names like Mikhail Zalomin, Vasili Makarski and Aleksandr Odintsov. They lived up to their reputation, showing great technique on this treacherous event, outscoring Portugal by close to two points.
In Trampoline, the Russian women overcame an early mistake by defending European Champion Yana Pavlova to clinch the team gold, almost 6 points ahead of Belarus, with France in third. The Russian men suffered two botched routines to finish off the podium. Victory went to the talented team of Belarus: Ivan Litvinovich, Aleh Rabtsau, Aliaksei Dudarau and reigning Olympic Champion Uladzislau Hancharou. Portugal edged France for the silver medal.
Congratulations to all medallists!
