At the conclusion of the 38th European Championships in Rhythmic Gymnastics in Tel Aviv (ISR), Kamran Ramazanov, CEO of our global partner SmartScoring presented the SmartScoring Shooting star award to Italy’s Alessia Maurelli.
Started in 2018, this award aims to put a gymnast with an exceptional story in the spotlight, someone who is an inspiration for the future generation of gymnasts and the general public alike.
Alessia Maurelli, captain of the Italian rhythmic group, affectionately known as the Farfalle, the Butterflies, truly is an inspiration to the people around her and the rhythmic community as a whole. She leads by example as she explains the strength of her own performance lies in the group: “As captain, I feel responsible for making everyone aware that we can rely on each other. The final result is born in the gym.”
Studying communications, she eyes a career in sports journalism, hoping to remain in the world she knows so well and being able to pass on her love and knowledge to fans worldwide.
Her impressive resume includes several European and World titles, an entire collection of silver and bronze medals, highlighted by the bronze medal at last summer’s Tokyo Olympics. With so many accolades to her name, Maurelli could have easily opted for a different life. Yet her passion for her sport is so big that she decided to continue another Olympic cycle, having her eyes firmly set on Paris 2024.
