The #Varna2026 Shooting star award goes to Alba Bautista (ESP)

After the Appartus finals of the 2026 European Championships in Rhythmic Gymnastics in Varna (BUL), Aida Shaliyeva, Project Manager of our global partner SmartScoring, presented the SmartScoring Shooting star award to Spain’s Alba Bautista.

Started in 2018, this award aims to put a gymnast with an exceptional story in the spotlight, someone who is an inspiration for the future generation of gymnasts and the general public alike.

Alba Bautista has built her career through determination, elegance, and a strong connection with the audience. Known for her charismatic performances and expressive style, the Spanish rhythmic gymnast has become one of the most recognizable figures in her discipline. She was named the 2019 Female Athlete of the Year in Teruel, Spain. 

Following the Paris Olympic Games, Alba faced one of the most challenging periods of her career. A succession of injuries prevented her from maintaining the level and consistency she had achieved during the previous season. The setbacks kept her away from her best form and tested both her physical and mental resilience.

However, through a year of hard work, patience, and dedication, Alba remained focused on her recovery and continued to train with determination. Step by step, she rebuilt her confidence and regained her competitive level.

Today, she arrives at the European Championships in her best condition, ready to showcase once again the charisma, artistry, and passion that define her rhythmic gymnastics. Her journey over the past year is a testament to perseverance and commitment, making her return to the carpet an inspiring story of resilience and ambition.
