Decisions of the 4th Virtual Extraordinary General Assembly

On 28 July 2026, European Gymnastics organised an Extraordinary General Assembly, postponed from 29 June, to discuss the World Gymnastics decision to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes back in competition without restrictions.

46 member federations attended this virtual Extraordinary General Assembly and approved the following proposals with the required majority:

1. Ratification of the decision of the European Gymnastics Executive Committee of 23 May 2026 that European Gymnastics follows the decision of World Gymnastics (FIG) to lift the restrictions applicable to Russian and Belarusian athletes and to apply the transitional approach adopted by the World Gymnastics Executive Committee on 23 July 2026. The European Gymnastics Executive Committee proposes this transitional approach for European Gymnastics events allocated before 28 July 2026.

The transitional approach adopted by Word Gymnastics foresees that if due to binding governmental measures -received in writing by a governmental institution- in a host country for the participation of delegations of the Russian Federation and/or the Republic of Belarus, restrictions apply to the use of the national flag, national anthem, country code  as well as national symbols, state emblems or official national identifiers on clothing, flags and anthems will be replaced by the World Gymnastics flag and neutral music to be decided by World Gymnastics and national symbols, state emblems or official national identifiers must not be used, including on uniforms (competition, warm-up, formal, ceremonies, casual, etc.), hand apparatus, clothing, equipment, accessories and personal items belonging to the individual Athletes from Belarus and/or Russia and their support personnel. An individual approach will be agreed with each host country concerned.

Accordingly, until further notice:

• no European Gymnastics event should be allocated or organised in Russia;

• Russian government or state officials should not be invited to European Gymnastics events.

2. The return of European Gymnastics authorities from the Russian Gymnastics Federation and the Belarus Gymnastics Association to their function with immediate effect.
