Dear Aerobics fans

At this very moment, gymnasts, coaches and judges from all over Europe are travelling to Antalya, the famous Turkish seaside resort town, for the 2023 European Championships! Over 2 years have passed since our previous continental Championships, time truly flies. We can’t wait to enjoy another event together and crown new European Champions.

As the Local Organising Committee is finalising the preparations, we shine the light on what to expect when competition begins on Friday. The nominative roster is impressive. We’re excited to see so many junior medallists in the senior ranks now, competing alongside many established names.

Besides the event preparations, our Technical Committee has been busy with our annual training camp and the organisation of several webinars. Read all about it below …

21 National Federations have registered a grand total of 398 gymnasts: 183 seniors and 215 juniors. The participants have the opportunity to compete in Individual Men / Women, Mixed Pairs, Trios, Groups, Aero Dance and Aero Step.

Host nation Türkiye will be well represented by 2021 World Champion and 2022 silver medallist Ayse Begum Onbasi who will face stiff competition from reigining World Champion Anastasiia Kurashvili (UKR). Kurashvili and mixed pair partner Stanislav Halaida were recently crowned World Cup series winners. 2021 World Champion and 2022 silver medallist Miquel Mane (ESP) earned top honours in this year’s World Cup series ahead of Portugal’s Rui Cansado.

Winning medals as juniors in the last edition of the Aerobics Europeans, Maelys Lenclos (FRA),  Lola Lawrence (GBR),  Lucrezia Rexhepi (ITA), Borislava Ivanova and Hristo Manolov (BUL) now all compete as seniors and are challenging for the medals.

Lenclos and longtime partners Clara Lestruhaut and Victoria Trosset clinched the Trios World Cup series victory over Davide Nacci, Francesco Sebastio and Sara Cutini (ITA). All three French ladies then joined Juliette Leblanc and Yaelle Winona Mathieu to prevail in the Groups category as well.

From 3 to 9 July, we held our annual Aerobic Gymnastics Training Camp, this year in Pomigliano d’Arco (ITA). 49 gymnasts and 13 coaches from 10 countries participated in the training camp, while an additional 7 coaches participated in the coaches’ course.

The philosophy of the camp is to provide access and enjoyment for those who would like to improve their performance under supervising coaching experts. This also allows the exchange of experience and planning of lectures for the coaches.

The camp included an introduction to how to best prepare your gymnasts for competitions including, but not limited to, periodisation training, conditioning circuit, various skills, jumps, strength, safe progressive practice in training, theory and practice in spotting and safety, Code of Points (introduction and explanation),  choreography and dance style.

A big thank you goes to the experts by my side during this week: Daniel Bali (HUN), Vito Iaia (ITA), Matteo Guerrini (ITA), Sara Moreno (ESP), Dimitrios Polyzos (GRE), Dimitrina Kandeva (BUL), Monica Maria Darone (ITA), Antonio Barone (ITA) and Pedro Esperanca Canilhas (POR).

 

Already 2 super interesting webinars about Aerobic Gymnastics were organised this year: ‘Nutrition and supplements in Aerobic Gymnastics’ by Sofia Papa and ‘Sports motivation and coach-created environment’ by Bianca Maria Gorgovan.

There is one more coming up soon: ‘Recovery and injury prevention in Aerobic Gymnastics’ by Dr. Zdravko Taralov. This will take place on Monday 27 November 2023 from 19.00 to 20.30 CET.
