Belarussian rhythmic gymnast Alina Harnasko became one of the brightest participants in the Deriugina Cup, held in Kyiv last week. She collected 4 Grand Prix medals: 2 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze. Alina spoke to the press service of the Belarusian Gymnastics Association about the emotions she felt at the first official tournament after a long, unexpected break.
We really missed competing, the special atmosphere that exists at events. They believed that the Deriugina Cup would take place. Moreover, the tournament is jubilee, [25th edition], for Ukraine it was important to hold it. I'm glad it worked out.
Belarus Gymnastics Association: How difficult was it to return to the competitive rhythm?
Harnasko: “At first, there was great excitement, it seemed that nothing came out during testing. From then on, it was easier. But when in the first round the apparatus went beyond the carpet, I decided it was time to get ready. I did that, and afterwards I performed much more confidently.”
Belarus Gymnastics Association: Did you expect to bring home so many medals?
Harnasko: “For the first competition after the break, I performed very well. However, I see where you can do better. We expect that at the next competitions the number of participating countries will increase, and it will be even more interesting to compete.”
Belarus Gymnastics Association: What can you say about your routines?
Harnasko: “They were created at the end of last year, and presented at the beginning of this year, then made significantly more complicated. Now these are 4 different, interesting programmes. I can't say how long I'll be performing them, but I like them.”
Belarus Gymnastics Association: Was it unusual to compete without spectators?
Harnasko: “I wouldn't say that the stands were empty, the team supported us. However, the main thing was to once again feel the atmosphere of an official competition, which during this time all the gymnasts missed.”
