Azerbaijan, Italy and Israel strike gold at inaugural Junior ACRO World Championships

At the end of the World Age Group Competitions in Acrobatic Gymnastics, the International Gymnastics Federation FIG organised the inaugural Junior World Championships, a continuation of the 13 – 19 Age Group competition, with the best 5 formations in the all-around qualifying per category: Women’s Pairs, Mixed Pairs, Men’s Pairs, Women’s Groups and Men’s Groups.

Nine nations made it onto the podium, including an incredible seven European countries. The only double victory went to ACRO powerhouse Israel, winning both the Women’s Pairs and the Men’s Groups title, for respectively the duo Arad Aber Deutch – Roni Teller, and the awesome foursome Liran Cohen, Liad Madar, Yevgeni Pinchukov and Eran Rodnay.

History makers at last year’s Europeans, Italians Edoardo Ferraris and Arianna Luca impressed with 28.500 to clinch the mixed pairs title, continuing to open paths for the Italian acro community. With a fabulous score of 29.000, Anahit Bashiri, Zahra Rashidova and Nazrin Zeyniyeva cruised to victory for Azerbaijan in the women’s group final.

To delight of the audience, host nation Portugal earned a silver and a bronze medal, for the women’s pairs Sofia Ferreira and Joana Silva, and women’s group Leonor Carreira, Ema Fernandes and Alicia Santos respectively.
