The Bulgarian capital Sofia hosted the second World Cup stage in Rhythmic Gymnastics last weekend. Living up to their reputation, gymnasts representing the host nation claimed all but one of the 8 available titles.
Vice-European Champion Boryana Kaleyn excelled, clinching the all-around victory with almost 3 points advantage. In apparatus finals, the 21-year-old added victory with hoop, ball and ribbon to her honours. Compatriot Stiliana Nikolova was the best with ribbon and cemented her status as rising star by winning silver with ribbon and bronze in the all-around.
Star of the first World Cup in Greece, Italy’s Sofia Raffaeli continued to shine as she collected 4 silver medals: all-around, hoop, ball and clubs. Teammate and 2020 Olympian Milena Baldassarri earned the bronze with ball. France’s Maëlle Millet claimed the bronze with hoop while Ukraine’s Viktoria Onopriienko, who found refuge in Italy, clinched bronze with ribbon.
In the group competition, the newly composed Bulgarian group topped the all-around standings ahead of Greece and France. The Golden Girls were also victorious in the 5 hoops final but settled for silver behind Greece in the 3 ribbons and 2 balls exercise.
