On the first day of apparatus finals at the 2025 European Youth Olympic Festival in Osijek (CRO), familiar faces won yet more titles.
France's Elena Colas, winner of the all-around, team and mixed team title, added a fourth gold to her already impressive collection, giving a masterclass on uneven bars. Colas scored a whopping 14.300, winning the gold with almost 1,5 points advantage.
The talented French athlete said with a smile: "Unbelievable - this dream of mine in Osijek just keeps going. I'm really happy about this medal. I knew that if I performed my routine well, first place was within reach. I just followed all my coach’s instructions and tried to deliver in the final exactly what I’ve been training - and I succeeded. I have two more finals tomorrow, who knows, maybe I’ll be back on the podium again.“
Evan McPhillips from Great Britain, already the proud owner of team and all-around gold, earned his third gold of the event, winning floor over Italy's Riccardo Ruggeri. His teammate Uzair Chowdhury clinched the title on rings, adding to the British success at this event.
On vault, Mia Proietti (ITA) outscored Romania's Alexia Blanaru for the gold, while the pommel horse title went to two incredible athletes: Nikita Prohorov (GER) and Ben Schumacher (SUI) who tied with 13.533.
Fun fact: Ireland won its first ever EYOF medal in gymnastics courtesy of Chester Enriquez on floor!
