With over 3000 spectators cheering in the Fiera di Rimini, the senior women contested their apparatus finals. In an afternoon marked by stellar performances, few big mistakes and a great atmosphere, Europe’s new individual Champions were crowned.
On vault, defending Champion and top qualifier Coline Devillard (FRA) showed off her impressive skills, edging Bulgaria’s Valentina Georgieva for the title, her third European vault gold medal! Joining them on the podium was Devillard’s teammate Ming Van Eijken who clinched the bronze medal with just 0.033 points advantage over Romania’s Ana Barbosu. Her first senior European medal is in the pocket.
Italian superstar Alice D’Amato came into the bars final as the defending European Champion. D’Amato and teammate Elisa Iorio performed the highest difficulty in this final, their exercises worth 6.3. As her execution marked higher, D’Amato easily secured her second consecutive bars title, while Iorio found herself on the continental podium for the very first time in her career. Delighted with her routine, Georgia-Mae Fenton (GBR) swooped past former junior stand-out Helen Kevric (GER) for the bronze medal, another career first.
The night belonged, again, to Manila Esposito. The 17-year-old Italian won the all-around title on Thursday for the first time in her career. Today she added not one but two more gold medals to her fast-growing collection. First, she aced her beam routine. A splendid performance gave her a solid advantage over her competitors, and the highest beam score so far, 14.400. Then, Esposito sealed the deal on floor, showcasing a dramatic and superbly executed routine to clinch her third gold medal of these Championships.
Sabrina Maneca-Voinea certainly gave it her all today. Her beam performance included a sky-high full twist and her floor was just impressive. The talented Romanian earned two silver medals. Interestingly, she does a double layout punch front tumbling pass. The same pass as her mother and coach Camelia Voinea did, and she also won the silver at Europeans, back in 1987.
After silver in 2016 and bronze in 2018, France’s Marine Boyer grabbed bronze on beam, getting her confidence boost ahead of the Olympics in her home country. The last medal of today went to Italy’s Angela Andreoli whose quirky floor routine beat Great Britain’s Alice Kinsella.
Congratulations to the medallists!
