On this sunny Saturday afternoon in the city of Luxembourg, the senior gymnasts performed their third and final routine, the Combined routine. With this score added to the results obtained in the Balance and Dynamic qualifications, the European All-Around Champions were determined.
Starting off with the women’s pairs, top qualifiers Anhelina Cherniavska and Ruzanna Vecheruk made Ukraine proud as they poured their heart and soul into their routine. With a total score of 83.080 the duo earned Ukraine’s first gold medal of this event, finishing just under 2 tenths of a point ahead of the British pair Lydia Mulvey and Jessica Flay who moved up one place in the ranking, switching the qualification order with Israel’s Maya Velner and Rony Cohen. Silver for Great Britain, and bronze for Israel.
In the mixed pairs category, the qualification order remained exactly as it was with Amy Refaeli and Yonatan Fridman producing a breathtaking routine for Israel. Receiving a whopping 29.040 for the third routine, the experienced Israeli pair totalled a score of 86.00, easily holding off the Ukrainian challenge of Ivan Labunets and Yevfrosyniia Kryvytska who delighted the audience with a splending display. One point further down the ranking, the ever popular, ever elegant Diana Lust and Daniel Blintsov brought the bronze home to Germany.
With history already written for Spain, top qualifiers Jose Moreno and Juan Daniel Molina decided to firmly cement their names in the books with another energetic performance. An ever so slight margin of 0.060 over Azerbaijan’s Daniel Abbasov and Murad Rafiyev delivered the Spanish pair their second European title of the week. Another silver for Azerbaijan, and another bronze for Portugal’s Miguel Lopes and Goncalo Parreira in a repeat of Friday’s podium.
Getting very familiar with the top step of the podium, Alicia Santos, Leonor Carreira and Ema Fernandes made the vocal Portuguese fans extremely proud as they cruised to victory in the women’s groups final. More than a full point separated the ladies from Portugal and the Israeli trio Ori Dekel, Sivan Gerber and Roni Rotman who proudly clinched the silver. Not in the top 3 to qualify, Ukraine improved their total score massively courtesy of a 28.540 posted for a terrific combined effort by Elina Kozachanska, Alina Puhach and Karina Ostrovska to secure another medal for their country.
The men’s groups once again lived up to the expectations with their daring and impressive skills. Top qualifiers Or Abraham, Lior Borodin, Rotem Amihai and Tomer Offir topped also the total ranking, bringing the gold home to Israel. A thrilling battle for silver and bronze ensued. Great Britain’s Louis Alexander, Freddie Turner, Rex Booth and Samuel Ditchburn overtook Germany’s Andreas Benke, Pascale Dressler, Carl Frankenstein and Aaron Borck by a tiny margin, deciding the podium order: silver for Great Britain and bronze for Germany in this final!
