We’re back at Varna’s Palace of Culture and Sports for the second week of #ACRO2023. This week, the European Championships are disputed, for both juniors and seniors.
On the programme today: the 188 junior participants competed their first exercise in the qualification rounds which was immediately followed by the individual finals. Balance for Women’s Pairs and Dynamic for Women’s Group and Mixed Pairs. Due to the lack of participants, the Men’s Pairs and Men’s Group Balance finals were held out of competition.
Germany’s women’s pair Alisa Karsdorf and Mia Ohlsen showed the audience that the highest difficulty doesn’t always win. The talented ladies earned their merit due to excellent artistry and execution to clinch the European title with 27.340. The battle for silver and bronze was decided by the narrowest of gaps. Just 0.010 separated Lili David and Julie Philouze (FRA) from Ruzanna Vecheruk and Anhelina Cherniavska (UKR) with the French pair grabbing silver.
Hot stuff on the floor by top qualifiers Ruby Bray, Abi Read and Emma Farraj who were in a league of their own here. The British trio posted 28.190, outscoring Azerbaijan’s Anahita Bashiri, Zahra Rashidova and Nazrin Zeyniyeva and the Netherlands’ Amilyah Daal, Inge Speerstra and Mare Anne Hogenhuis for the dynamic gold, courtesy of the highest artistry and execution score.
In Mixed Pairs dynamic final, the top 2 qualifiers Italy and Ukraine battled it out for the title. Both pairs posted the same difficulty score. While Ivan Labunets and Yevfrosyniia Kryvytska (UKR) ranked higher in execution, Edoardo Ferraris and Arianna Luca (ITA) ranked by far the highest in artistry. The first ever medal for Italy, and it is gold. What a great performance! Austria’s Kailani Friedrich and Tobias Arbesleitner joined them on the third step of the podium.
In the unofficial finals, Great Britain claimed double victories. Sidney Baker and Owen Nickless posted the highest score of the evening, 28.700, while Gethin Davies, Freddie Turner, Louis Alexander and Rex Booth earned a fabulous 27.500 for their balance performance.
Congratulations to the medallists!
