After a hugely successful 13th edition of the European Age Group Competitions last week, the stage is now set for the 32nd European Championships! Same place, same discipline, different insanely talent gymnasts!
On this first day, the juniors performed their first exercise. For Women’s Groups and Mixed Pairs, the Dynamic routine was on the menu, while the Women’s Pairs, Men’s Pairs and Women’s Groups entertained the audience with their Balance skills.
The night definitely belonged to Israel as they picked up 4 out of the 5 available European titles. Their quest started in the junior women’s pair balance final where Roni Teller and Arad Aber Deutch edged past Bulgarian duo Deya Hadjiatanasova and Raya Lozeva with a mere 0.020 advantage. Junior Men’s Pairs Ran Aviv and Jonathan Markovich won the Balance final by the biggest margin today, 27.900 to 25.700 for Great Britain’s Samuel Austin and Archie Pickles. The highest score of the day went to Israel’s Mixed Pair Noy Cohen and Yannay Regev. As the last performers, they sneaked past Great Britain’s Harry Norman and Emily Eales by just 5 hundreds of a point. The fourth Israeli title came courtesy of their junior Men’s Group, featuring Mark Borodin, Oskar Borodin, Erel Paz and Yehonathan Joseph, in the Balance final. Portugal’s Tomas Martinho, Jorge Silva, Gabriel Vilela and Joao Samico secured the silver, with Ukraine’s Mykolai Khasanov, Mykola Soroka, Dmytro Borshchevskyi and Volodymyr Repetii in third place.
Preventing an Israeli sweep, the 2023 Pre Youth European Age Group Champions Gemma Biddle, Alexis Biddle and Sophie Noyce clinched the junior Dynamic title for Great Britain ahead of Israel’s Noa Yifrah, Noam Ronen and Romi Tal. The bronze medal went to Germany’s Malika Strack, Marlene Strack and Alisa Marahtanova.
Congratulations to the medallists!
