Junior individual titles for Portugal, Great Britain, Belgium, Netherlands and Türkiye

On the final day of the 29th European Championships in Trampoline, Double Mini-Trampoline and Tumbling, the afternoon started with the junior individual finals at the Multiusos de Guimaraes.

Under loud support of her home crowd, Ines Correia (POR) soared to gold, scoring a great 25.100, and easily holding off her rivals. The British duo Paige Russell and Jessica Vickery danced away to the music playing into the earphones in warm-up, obviously the best way for them to get into to competition mindset. And they delivered, securing silver and bronze respectively.

Another British clash unfolded at the same time on the tumbling track where Sebastian Bandeira Freire set the standard with a spectacular pass that earned him 25.300. Last up, Otis Mason did his utmost best to surpass his compatriot. His 24.600 didn’t quite manage that: gold for Bandeira Freire, silver for Mason. In the battle for bronze, two Israeli tumblers went head-to-head with Ariel Adler Ribke earning the medal. It’s the very first Israel is competing at a European Championships in Tumbling, and they immediately return home with a medal, well done!

Writing her name in the history books for Belgium, Lani Spiessens has shown impressive skills throughout this week, and saw the culmination of her efforts rewarded with the gold medal in tumbling. Defending junior Champion Alicia Field secured the silver medal, actually earning the exact same score, 23.300, as during her 2022 victory. The bronze went to Portugal’s Rita Cardoso.

In DMT, the top three boys all scored within 3 tenths of each other, making it a nerve-wrecking wait to see the final scores. Great Britain clinched another gold, courtesy of James Keenan while Germany’s Marvin Brodowski and Great Britain’s Declan Carter posted the same score, 23.800. As the tie breaking rules state, the ranking in the previous round determined the medal distribution: silver for Brodowski, bronze for Carter.

Onto the Trampoline finals, where top qualifier Thalissa Wijkstra truly was in a league of her own, her difficulty being a mile ahead of her competitors. With this fabulous performance, Wijkstra secured the second gold medal for the Netherlands this week. In second place, Italy’s Letizia Radaelli had the highest ‘Time of Flight’ and ‘Horizontal Displacement’, the last one tied with bronze medal winner Juline Hesse of France.

Last but not least, Sinan Cankurt flew to victory for Türkiye, thanks to wonderful difficulty and execution scores. Joining Sinan on the podium are Leo Mesce for Switzerland and Goncalo Costa for Portugal. A trio we will certainly hear more of in the future!

Congratulations to the medallists!
