As the sun shines bright over Varna, the junior gymnasts enjoyed their time in the spotlight, battling for all-around glory.
With their balance and dynamic exercises already on the scoreboard, all gymnasts today performed their combined routine. The three scores added together determined the all-around ranking. Due to limited participation, the men’s pairs and men’s groups final were held out of competition.
Great Britain owned the night, winning 4 out of 5 available gold medals. First, in the Women’s Pairs final, Esme Mathias and Natalia Gilbert earned the coveted title ahead of Spain’s Joana Monica Lopez and Leyre Lopez, with France’s Lili David and Julie Philouze in third place.
In a nail-biting final, Ruby Bray, Abi Read and Emma Farraj edged the Azerbaijani trio Anahita Bashiri, Zahra Rashidova and Nazrin Zeyniyeva by just 2 tenths for the European crown. Both groups showed incredible skill in entertaining choreographies. Clinching the bronze medal, Marta Oliveira, Leonor Carreira and Ema Fernandes add to Portugal’s already impressive medal tally.
Preventing a British sweep of the titles, Ukraine’s Ivan Labunets and Yevfrosyniia Kryvytska aced their combined routine, performing with passion and commitment to clinch the mixed pairs gold. On their heels, Italians duo Edoardo Ferraris and Arianna Luca continued to impress the spectators, settling for silver this time. Bronze went to Portugal’s Andre Fiuza and Madalena Tomas.
A big round of applause also for the men’s pairs and men’s groups. Although not officially winning the medals, their performances were highly valued and appreciated by the audience and the officials.
Congratulations to the medallists!
