At the fourth and final stop of the FIG Apparatus World Cup series, Baku’s National Gymnastics Arena witnessed the fourth consecutive parallel bars victory by Ukraine’s Ilia Kovtun, the only gymnast to remain unbeaten in this series.
Reigning Olympic Champion Artem Dolgopyat (ISR) earned his third victory on floor after claiming the top spots in Cairo and Cottbus while Nazar Chepurniy (UKR) took top honours on vault, in absence of Artur Davtyan (ARM) who won the previous three stages. Italy’s Salvatore Maresca upgraded from bronze in Cairo to gold on rings in Baku with British star Joe Fraser claiming the high bar title.
In the women’s competition, superstar Oksana Chusovitina (UZB) topped the vault ranking. France’s Lorette Charpy, whose untimely knee injury kept her out of the Tokyo Olympics, come back in full force, claiming gold on bars and silver on beam. Sarah Voss (GER) earned the highest score on beam, earning her first World Cup title.
