Let’s Fly! The Trampoline Gymnastics Newsletter N° 19 - January 2025

Dear trampoline friends,

As we embark on the new year that is 2025, I would like to look back at the incredible year that 2024 was for the European trampoline gymnastics community.

In April, we all watched Europe’s best trampoline, DMT and tumbling gymnasts compete at the European Championships in the Portuguese city of Guimarães. In July, Europe’s gymnasts and their coaches participated in our Training Camp in Sangalhos (POR). In August, we all watched the best trampolinists at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris (FRA).

I am honoured to have been a part of these events and pleased to see the progress of our gymnasts, coaches and judges, which shows the dedication of you all.

In November, the FIG electoral Congress took place in Doha (QAT). I would like to congratulate the new FIG Trampoline Technical Committee for the 2025-2028 cycle.

One of the new elected FIG TC members is Clive Morgan, who was the secretary of the European Gymnastics Trampoline TC in this last cycle. I would like to thank Clive for the great work he did. With his endless knowledge and experience, he was of great value for the TC. My team and I will miss his hard work, but above all, we will miss him as a person.

Thanks Clive, for everything! And we wish you and the FIG a wonderful upcoming Olympic cycle!

Our European Championships in Guimaraes (POR) were a massive success, marked by exciting new innovations and initiatives. The introduction of the ‘Fun Zone’ brought gymnasts and fans together for interactive experiences, while the ‘Golden Tickets’ added a touch of excitement for qualifiers to the finals.

This excitement was carried into the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, where our European gymnasts shone brightly. Of the 32 trampolinists, 15 hailed from Europe, and there were an impressive 10 out of 11 judges from our continent. I would like to congratulate the Olympic champions, Bryony Page and Ivan Litvinovich, as well as the other medallists. I would also like to show my appreciation for the performance of all European gymnasts at the Olympic Games!

While there are no European Championships in 2025, we have exciting events to look forward to, including the World Games in Chengdu (CHN) and the World Championships in Pamplona (ESP). And I cannot wait to see the world's best trampolinists, tumblers, and DMT gymnasts in action again.

My technical committee held meetings and other activities in Guimaraes (POR) in March, in Stockholm (SWE) in September and in London (GBR) in December. There, we planned workshops and other future developments for our disciplines.

These included successful workshops for trampoline, DMT and tumbling coaches and judges in Finland, Italy, and Serbia.

So, in 2025, we will build on this with more workshops. In the first weekend of January Jenny Söderlund and I went to Oslo (NOR) to give several DMT workshops during a big TeamGym training camp. The gymnasts were very enthusiastic and showed really impressive skills! From 12 to 16 February, part of the TC and some of our external experts will travel to Finland for a development training camp in all three disciplines. Besides that, we are busy planning a TUM workshop in Germany in the first half of the year. We have also fixed the date and place for this summer’s training camp – it will be held between 27 July - 2 August in Baku (AZE). If you are interested in participating, the invitation should be available at the end of January.

If you’re interested in hosting a workshop as well, please contact me or a member of the TRA-TC.

During the round table in Guimaraes, we had insightful discussions, and one recurring theme was the team finals. We have listened to your feedback and we have made changes to the competition schedule. These include having all of the team finals on one day during the next European Championships in 2026.

However, we are also looking for a host for the European Championships in 2026 and beyond. If your federation is interested, contact me or a member of the TC.

Plans for an online Tumbling competition later this year are made. We do not know the exact date at present, but we hope it will be in May or June.

European Gymnastics has a Development Programme, which is supported by our Global partner SmartScoring and our apparatus suppliers Spieth, Gymnova, and Eurotramp.

This programme is to help national federations with their projects. And I am pleased to announce that European Gymnastics are now accepting applications.

There are two ways that national federations can benefit:

  1. Apparatus donations
  2. Financial assistance for projects, especially those enhancing judging and coaching activities

Applications must be sent to the European Gymnastics office (info@europeangymnastics.com) by 17 January 2025.

For more details, visit Submit Your Projects for Our Development Programme.

Following the Intercontinental Course, Europe will host International Judge Courses in Baku (AZE) and Tbilisi (GEO) in January and February. Good luck to all the judges attending these courses!

FIG’s online brevet exams will be held later this year, and to help candidates prepare, we will host webinars in April, June, and September.
