Dear ACRO lovers
Excitement is building! In just ten days, we will be on the competition floor in Luxembourg’s Coque arena for the first day of the European Age Group Competitions! You can read all about this competition, and the European Championships for juniors and seniors in this newsletter. We’re looking forward to seeing many of you there!
While preparation for our flagship events this year has taken priority, we’ve been busy organising workshops too. TC member Amir Mozes headed to Visaginas (LTU) and Tallinn (EST) for two highly appreciated workshops. In the framework of our site visit in February, we held an ACRO Introduction workshop for clubs and their coaches in Luxembourg. We stress the importance of these workshops and repeat our invitation to national federations who want to develop ACRO or are thinking about it: contact us for advice, help and / or the organisation of workshops.
Furthermore, we’re planning two webinars to follow up on the successful ones delivered last year by Hila Harel (ISR) on resilience and Renee McGregor (GBR) on nutrition.
I’d like to congratulate Amir with his appointment to the FIG Technical Committee where he’ll join Juan Leon Prados for the 2025 – 2028 Olympic cycle. Both mean a lot to us at European Gymnastics, and will be greatly missed. However, we know that their experience and passion for ACRO will help our discipline shine on the highest level. It’s also a pleasure to see Belgium’s Lore Vanden Berghe as the Athletes’ Representative.
As you can see, there’s a lot to look forward to, and it starts in Luxembourg!
Ten days left to go until #ACRO2025! The draw is done, the nominative entries confirmed.
The European Age Group Competitions will be held from 10 to 13 April 2025 and will feature 174 Pre Youth (11 – 16) gymnasts and 211 Youth (12 – 18) gymnasts, representing 24 nations. The following week, from 16 to 20 April, Europe’s best junior and senior ACRO gymnasts will take to the stage in the European Championships. A grand total of 350 gymnasts – 165 juniors and 185 seniors – from 23 countries will aim for continental glory.
A fabulous line-up promises to deliver a fantastic competition! We’ll see Azerbaijani mixed pair Aghasif Rahimov and Raziya Seyidli and men’s pair Daniel Abbasov and Murad Rafiyev at work. Both pairs are not only defending European Champions, but also the reigning World Champions! More World Champion material comes from Belgium, as women’s pair Maysae Bouhouch and Silke Macharis are looking to add European gold to their triple world crown. Forced to withdraw due to injury at the last Europeans, in 2023, the formidable duo showed their worth again recently, on home soil, where they won 2 titles at the World Cup event in Puurs. Amy Refaeli and Yonatan Fridman, Vice-World Champions, and seasoned competitors are leading Israel’s delegation. Ukraine has World Champions Bohdan Ivanyk and Anastasiia Semenovych in their ranks while Yevfrosyniia Kryvytska and Ivan Labunets won all three titles in Puurs. Powerhouse Great Britain counts on, amongst their strong partnerships, the Worlds experience of medallists Natalia Gilbert and Esme Mathias.
Another great ACRO nation, Portugal can count on reigning dynamic World Champions Miguel Lopes and Goncalo Parreira while Spain is sending the silver medallists in the same category: Juan Daniel Molina and Jose Moreno. Both pairs impressed in Puurs. More Puurs magic came from Portugal’s men’s group featuring Rodrigo Coutinho, Gustavo Fernandes, Andre Fiuza and Rafael Santos, and women’s group Leonor Carreira, Ema Fernandes and Alicia Santos. Of course, Germany’s crowd favourites Daniel Blintsov and Diana Lust will also head to D’Coque Sports Arena.
We’re planning a pay-per-view livestream of the entire competition. For the junior and senior finals, we’ll add the expert commentary by Olly Hogben and Blythe Lawrence. All info on how to follow #ACRO2025 will be published on the European Gymnastics website and social media channels this week.

Our TC member Amir Mozes delivered two Workshops recently. First, in Visaginas, Lithuania, followed by Tallinn, Estonia. From 10 to 12 January, Amir taught 2 Lithuanian clubs -Visaginas and Vilnius- with 31 acrobats and 6 aerobic gymnasts. In 4 sessions, specific warm-up and preparation exercises were highlighted to ensure the coaches understand the fundamental skills in Acro, can teach them safely and comfortably; and can build on these.
Amir travelled onwards to Tallinn where from 13 to 15 January 4 different clubs participated in the workshop. Around 20 partnerships of different skill levels took part in the training sessions. The participating coaches specifically selected the elements they wanted guidance on: body preparation, flexibility, conditioning, drills, and steps of developments.
In February, we held an Acro Introduction Workshop for the Luxembourg Gymnastics Federation and its affiliated clubs with their technicians, gymnasts and volunteers. Held in Differdange, I was joined by TC members Melanie Sanders, Katarzyna Majewska-Kasprzak and Nikolay Ivanov who gave the participants an introduction in the basics of Acrobatic Gymnastics, and gave advice on how to get started in this discipline. Silvio Sagramola, General Secretary of the Luxembourg Gymnastics Federation, stressed the importance of creating a lasting legacy when organising a major international event. The effects were seen in TeamGym before and after hosting the 2022 TeamGym Europeans in Luxembourg. The aim is similar for Acrobatic Gymnastics. Potential ACRO gymnasts are looking forward to become inspired in April.
