The Olympic champion of Ukraine, Oleksandra Tymoshenko, will be the Ambassador of the 36th European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships, which will be held in May 2020 in Kyiv.
The winner of the Olympic gold has been living in Vienna for many years and is planning to come to her home city on the occasion of the Сhampionships. She mentioned this in her first interview in recent years, which was published in the Ukrainian edition of Dzerkalo Tyzhnia (The Mirror Weekly).
According to her, she sees her mission in making this sport even more popular:
For many people, life is a gray routine, and such sports brighten it. So I hope that really many spectators will come to see this beauty on May 21-24 at the Kyiv Palace of Sports
Tymoshenko also said that she is a member of the Austrian Gymnastics Federation, which helps raise money for children, to develop rhythmic gymnastics in that country.
The main activity of the winner of the Olympic gold medal today is related to business.
Oleksandra Tymoshenko is the most titled Ukrainian gymnast. She is the winner of gold and bronze medals at the Olympic Games (Seoul 1988 and Barcelona 1992). Only a few gymnasts in the history of this sport have achieved similar success. Her coaches were Albina and Iryna Deriugina. Immediately after the triumphant victory at the Barcelona Olympic Games, Tymoshenko announced the end of her sports career, and soon went abroad.
