As we speak, hundreds of acro gymnasts are travelling to Portugal to participate in the Maia International Acro Cup, affectionately known as MIAC. For the senior gymnasts, this event marks the start of the World Cup circuit which continues in Las Vegas (USA) and Puurs (BEL) in spring and returns to Portugal in September for the final World Cup stage of this year, in Lisbon.
These World Cup events are a great rehearsal for all European gymnasts aiming to shine at this year’s main events: the European Games and the European Championships.
The Belarussian capital Minsk will host the second edition of the European Games. Acrobatic Gymnastics will be represented by eight mixed pairs and eight women’s groups. They will compete in alternation with their colleagues from Rhythmic Gymnastics, a match that proved hugely popular at the inaugural Games in 2015.
From 24 October to 3 November, the entire acro community will focus on Holon (ISR) to witness the European Age Group Competitions and the continental Championships at the highest level. The Toto hall, venue of the 2016 Rhythmic Europeans, can welcome up to 3000 spectators. The Israeli Gymnastics Federation is an experienced host and acrobatic gymnastics lives in Israel, guaranteeing massive support for all participants in a thrilling atmosphere.
Marina Chernova and Georgiy Pataraya, winners of the 2018 Athletes of the Year award, remain the ones to beat as they aim for a ‘triple triple’, a third consecutive sweep of the European titles. These legends will be leading a strong Russian team although the host nation seeks the spotlight as well. Israel’s popular men’s group, the European and World Champions, are not competing anymore, but could make an appearance to support their teammates and please their fans.
Tickets for the Europeans will go on sale in summer. Keep your eye on our website and social media pages for all the latest information!
For the fourth year in a row, the UEG organises its annual training camp in Kamchia (BUL). The magnificent facilities on the Black Sea coast offer the participants an excellent combination of training and summer. Check the UEG website for more information and sign up!
