As we are speaking, the competitive season for Aerobic gymnasts starts with the World Cup in Cantanhede (POR). In two weeks, the circuit moves to Japan where the city of Suzuki will be the host.
For the European gymnasts, 2019 counts two highlights: the European Championships and the European Games!
First up, Europe’s best junior and senior gymnasts will battle for continental glory in Baku’s National Gymnastics Arena. They can compete in the following categories: individual men, individual women, mixed pairs, trios, groups and AeroDance. Unfortunately, due to lack of participants, the AeroStep competition will be exhibition only. Several stars retired after the last Europeans in 2017, including Spain’s Sara Moreno and Vicente Lli, Hungary’s Dora Hegyi and Romania’s Andreea Bogati, so it’ll be interesting to see the next new names emerge. Junior stand-outs like Daria Tikhonova and Ayse Begin Onbasi have now joined the senior ranks, ready to make a name for themselves.
One month after the European Championships, the eight qualified mixed pairs and groups will represent Aerobics at the second edition of the European Games in the Belarussian capital Minsk. Competing together with Trampoline, Aerobics will take its place on the international sports scene with TV broadcast expected in more than 100 countries.
The UEG’s Aerobics Technical Committee also prepares for its annual training camp. It will be held in Latina (ITA) from 14 to 20 July. We look forward to welcoming you at our Aerobics events this year!
