Sad news from Italy: the legendary Franco Menichelli passed away at the age of 84.
Born on 3 August 1941 in Rome, Menichelli made headlines throughout his illustrious career. At the 1960 Olympic Games in his hometown, he won bronze on floor and with the Italian team. Four years later, he was crowned Olympic Champion on floor, in addition to winning the silver on rings and the bronze on parallel bars. At a European level, Menichelli became the first male gymnast to win three consecutive European titles on floor, from 1961 to 1965.
Our heartful condolences go out to his family and loved ones, and the entire Italian gymnastics community.
