On day 3 of the Trampoline Europeans in the Italian coastal resort of Rimini, the senior teams fought for continental glory in Double Mini-Trampoline and Tumbling while the juniors battled it out in synchro.
Great Britain scored a double victory in the first set of finals, with both their women’s DMT and men’s tumbling team jumping to gold. Kim Beattie, Madeleine Tarrant, Kirsty Way and Bethany Williamson held off the challenge from Portugal and Spain while Lewis Westwood, Ramarni Levena, Jaydon Paddock and Kristof Willerton proved too strong for Denmark and Azerbaijan.
In the junior synchro finals, the Georgian duo Maia Bochoridze and Ana Lapiashvili posted a 45.660 to beat Lina Uljee and Thalissa Wijkstra (NED) while the last performers, Mariyana Uzunova and Kristina Stamova from Bulgaria secured the bronze medal. Azerbaijan made it to the top of the podium as well, courtesy of Magsud Mahsudov and Huseyn Abbasov (AZE) whose score of 48.420 bested Kaloyan Petrov and Georgi Basarbovski (BUL) with just one hundreds of a point ! The bronze medal was won by Ukrainians Andrii Lishchuk and Davyd Sandomyrskyi.
The last two teams finals, Double Mini-Trampoline for the men and Tumbling for the women, had the audience on the edge of their seat. With excellent passes, and few mistakes, these gymnasts truly showed the spirit of their discipline. After a nail-biting finale, tension rose as the scores were being double checked. Spain’s DMT team, featuring Andres Martinez, David Franco, Nicolas Toribio and Carlos Del Ser took the top honours, beating an impressive Belgian squad and the British lads. Cheered on by her teammates Emilie Wambote, Marie Deloge and Maelle Dumitru-Marin, France’s Candy Briere-Vetillard gave it her all, posting the top score of the final and prolonging France’s reign.
Congratulations!
