From today, Europe’s best junior and senior acrobatic gymnasts battle for continental glory in Pesaro’s Vitrifrigo Arena.
On the first of 5 competition days, the juniors completed their qualifications rounds in their first routine, immediately followed by the finals in those categories.
First up, the mixed pairs final brought tension until the very last moment in the balance final. Top qualifiers Amy Refaeli and Yonatan Fridman (ISR), the 2019 European Age Group 11 – 16 Champions, earned the same score as Aleksandra Bublik and Kirill Chipizubov but were bumped to second place based on their execution score which was a tenth lower than the Russians. The last performers, Ines Nunes and Tomas Lourenco (POR) showed off a dramatic routine for a score of 27.290. This brought them onto to the podium, in third place, much to the delight of the vocal Portuguese fans in the hall.
Equally vocal, the Israeli fans had much to cheer for in the junior women’s groups dynamic final. Yarden Ron, Michal Stratievsky and Tamar Stollar performed brilliantly to score 27.850, 2 tenths more than Zarina Ulugkhodzhaeva, Katarina Rylova and Veronika Shestak (RUS). Azerbaijan, represented by Leyla Bashirova, Mansuma Mammadzada and Nazrin Farmanova, showed their great potential to finish with the bronze medal, 0.250 ahead of Belarus.
The Russian Federation won 2 more European titles today. In the men’s pairs balance final, top qualifiers Artur Shekhel and Andrei Slivkov were truly in a league of their own. Posting a massive 28.700, they had an advantage of more than a point over their closest rivals, the Belarussian duo Raman Khalimonchyk and Yahor Yemelyanenka. Germans Tobias Vitera and Albrecht Kertzschmar edged the Netherlands for the bronze. The women’s pairs dynamic finals turned out to be a much closer affair. Just 0.020 separated the Champions and the silver medallists with Kira Feofilaktova and Darina Novoselova (RUS) taking the gold ahead of Noa Maor and Adi Horwitz (ISR). Belarus earned their second medal of the day, a bronze for Palina Damaratskaya and Vera Matsko.
In another exciting final, 4 men’s groups battled for a place on the podium. Semen Lvov, Maksim Korchagin, Oleg Krivenko and Timur Timergaliev set the standard for Russia with 27.630. Great Britain, featuring Ethan Law, Jack Clegg, Jake Turner and Cameron Patrick-Lothian did slighty better with 27.700 but it was last up Israel that returned home with the gold. Odem Gidron, Or Abraham, Or Strohmayer and Maor Nekave scored 28.050
Congratulations to all junior medallists!
