On the last day of these 38th European Championships in Rhythmic Gymnastics, the battle for apparatus glory took centre stage.
Italy’s Sofia Raffaeli redeemed herself after a difficult day in the all-around final by excelling today, winning both hoop and clubs gold medals and taking silver with ball, writing her name in the history books as the first individual European Champion from Italy. The other two individual titles went to Bulgarian star Boryana Kaleyn who collected an impressive total of 5 medals thus becoming the event’s most decorated athlete! The new European all-around Champion Daria Atamanov (ISR) clinched three silver medals, cementing her status as Israeli queen of rhythmic gymnastics, following in the footsteps of the great Linoy Ashram. And she’s not the only Israeli hopeful. Adi Asya Katz earned bronze in the ribbon final as well. Germany’s Darja Varfolomeev qualified in third place to two finals and lived up to the expectations, winning bronze with ball and clubs. The 15-year-old certainly has a bright future ahead.
The Italian Butterflies were on fire today, cruising to victory in both finals. Forever the fan favourites, the crowd loved their brilliant performances. Israel took silver with 5 hoops, with Spain second with 3 ribbons and 2 balls. Azerbaijan earned two bronze medals.
Congratulations to all medallists!
