Statement regarding the CAS appeal decision

On January 13th, 2026, European Gymnastics received the CAS decision for the appeal submitted by European Gymnastics and Evangelia Trikomiti on February 27th, 2025, following the decision of the Gymnastics Ethics Foundation (GEF) of February 06th, 2025 in the case concerning alleged match fixing at the 2024 European Championships in Rhythmic Gymnastics.

European Gymnastics acknowledges that CAS upheld the GEF decision for liability of European Gymnastics based on article 4 of the FIG Code of Discipline, which states that a federation is liable for the behaviour of its officials. The argument of CAS that European Gymnastics selected Ms Trikomiti is debatable, as the position of Technical Committee President at European Gymnastics is based on candidatures submitted by member federations and elected by the General Assembly.

It is equally acknowledged that CAS upheld the GEF sanctions against Ms. Trikomiti, giving the reason of a balance of probabilities that it is more likely than not that Ms. Trikomiti interfered in the score of one routine of the gymnast Panagiota Lytra (GRE). GEF allegations against Ms. Trikomiti concerning other routines were dismissed by the CAS panel, stating that the presented arguments by GEF did not meet the level of proof even based on a balance of probabilities.

European Gymnastics will not comment further on this topic and is now looking forward to focus on the upcoming season of European Championships, European Cups, Gymnastics for All events and many other sportive activities together with its member federations.
