All eyes are on Guimaraes, the cradle of Portugal, this week as the city welcomes gymnasts from all over Europe for the 13th edition of the TeamGym Europeans.
After a day and a half of podium training, it’s time for action. The junior teams took to the stage of the vibrant Multiusos for their qualification round.
First up, 4 junior men’s teams battled for their place in Friday’s final. TeamGym powerhouse Sweden lead the field comfortably, posting the highest scores on each apparatus: floor, tumble and trampet. Two teams represented Great Britain, with the first team claiming their country’s ticket to the final with a second place overall. Estonia impressed, especially on tumble to finish third.
Following in their compatriot’s footsteps, the Swedish junior women’s team also qualified in first place, with the top scores on tumble and trampet. Living up to their tradition, Iceland was the best on floor but dropped behind Great Britain on the other two events. Finland, Czech Republic and Luxembourg also advance to the final. A special shoutout to the girls from Luxembourg: competing in the TeamGym Europeans for the very first time and immediately making it to the final!
No hattrick for Sweden tonight though as Great Britain leads the way in the junior mixed team session. By a gap of just over 3 tenths, the final battle promises to be nailbiting. Iceland, Austria, Portugal and Italy round up the top 6.
