TeamGym News! The TeamGym Newsletter N° 11 - November 2019

Dear friends of TeamGym!

Welcome to the 11th edition of the TeamGym Newsletter!

It is hard to believe that we are already halfway through the autumn term and less than two months away from the start of the next decennium.

The Technical Committee has had an exciting past five months with no less than five TeamGym events taking place in the Czech Republic, Estonia, Austria and Denmark.

The busy period started with a level 1 course on floor in mid-June in Prague (CZE). It was followed by the TeamGym Symposium in early August in Tallinn (EST), a level 1 course on all three apparatus in Wolfurt (AUT), the advanced training camp in Gladsaxe (DEN) and finally a level 3 course in Tumble/Trampet in late September in Roskilde (DEN). More than 130 participants from 16 UEG member federations have taken part in these events.

I would like to sincerely thank all organising federations and clubs for the great success of these events.

In less than a year, the 13th European Championships will take place -from 14 to 17 October 2020- in the Ballerup Super Arena, just outside Copenhagen (DEN). Following the decision of the Executive Committee to hold our continental championships 2020 as Open European Championships, teams from all FIG member Federations are very welcome to participate!

We hope to break the previous record of 52 competing teams at this first-ever Open European Championships.

The UEG is also happy to offer a side-event for new countries to discover TeamGym and the great atmosphere that the Championships bring. More information and an invitation will follow early next year.

The Danish Gymnastics Federation launched ticket sales in June, and information about how to buy tickets is available on www.teamgym2020.com.

The TeamGym Symposium took place on August 8th - 10th, 2019. Over the three days, 30 people representing 12 UEG federations participated. The aim was to provide a forum to spread knowledge, exchange ideas and discuss challenges and opportunities for the future development of TeamGym.

The Symposium was held in a good TeamGym spirit with the following main topics on the agenda:

  • TeamGym in Europe and the rest of the world

An overview of TeamGym in Europe was presented together with information about the activities currently being performed by the UEG to further spread TeamGym in Europe and on the other continents

  • Highlights from current development in Europe

Participants from Austria, Italy and Great Britain gave exciting presentations on national steps taken to grow the discipline, developing a national organisational structure and increase the credibility of the sport

  • TG CoP beyond 2020

The most time during the weekend was spent on this session about the direction of TeamGym development. A lot of great ideas for the future were presented from group discussions addressing the current rules; competition format, team size, age limits as well as considering projected technical development. The Technical Committee will aggregate presentations and workshop notes to be considered for the work on the future rules

  • Physical Preparation / Catching and Supporting

Two experts were invited to give presentations on these important topics. First out was Jonas Gustavsson (SWE), Dr. of Chiropractic and Head of Medicine for the Swedish National Team, talking about the physical demands in TeamGym followed by a practical session on how to reduce the risk of injuries and improve strength and mobility.

Helge Fisker (DEN), a teacher at the Ollerup Academy of Physical Education, provided a session on Catching and Supporting; the role of the coach, strategies in training and competition to increase safety and avoid injuries

  • Presentation of Foundation and Performance level rules

These rules, prepared by a working group consisting of members from Finland, Great Britain and Sweden, show how the TeamGym Code of Points can be modified for competitions below high national or European Championships levels. Feedback was provided by the community, and the rules will be available to download from the UEG webpage during November

Thanks to all participants for their great discussions and valuable input. We look forward to future talks and support in preparing the next Code of Points for 2022-2026.

Code of Points

Following the European Championships in last year, the TeamGym Technical Committee has made some clarifications to the Code of Points. The Code of Points 2017, revision B, was approved by the Executive Committee in late June and is available to download on the UEG website. All three language editions are also available on the intranet.

Starting at the 2020 European Championships, the CD panel on floor will be split into two subpanels to have the judges seated both in the front and from the side. As a result of this change, a new way of calculating the final CD panel score on floor is introduced. This will speed up judging and at the same, benefit from the use of the electronic scoring system from SmartScoring. See also the summary of the key changes between revision A and B.

ABC for Floor

An updated version of the ABC for Floor will soon be available on the UEG website . This is an educational presentation with videos to help coaches to learn and interpret the Code of Points.

Technical Regulations

Moreover, the UEG Executive Committee has discussed and approved updates of the Technical Regulations (all disciplines) for 2020 and 2021. The approved regulations, including some modifications for TeamGym, will soon be published on the UEG website under Rules.

The 1st TeamGym event next year is an extra brevet judges' course on January 2nd – 6th in Bracknell (GBR). This is an opportunity for both new and current TeamGym federations who are preparing for the Open European Championships in 2020.

The course will update candidates to the 2017 version of the Code of Points, revision B.

The invitation is available through your national federation. Please note the registration deadline: December 1st, 2019.

--------------------------------

To conclude, it has been a season full of activity in the development of TeamGym.

Keep up to date with the upcoming TeamGym courses and events by following the UEG on the website and social media channels.

With my warmest wishes,

Per Sjöstrand

TeamGym-TC President
