TeamGym News! The TeamGym Newsletter N° 21 - March 2026

Dear TeamGym Friends

As we usher in the new year and a new cycle, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the dedicated members of the previous TeamGym Technical Committee, led by Per Sjöstrand, whose unwavering commitment over many years has been instrumental to the development of TeamGym and the high level of our European Championships. Per’s ongoing support is both inspirational and very much appreciated!

On 1 January 2026, the new cycle began, and with that the new Technical Committee (TC) took office. I’m proud to introduce the team: Kim Mortensen (DEN), Emil Deckner (SWE), Gabriel Fortes (POR), Bergþóra Kristín Ingvarsdóttir (ISL), Tron Lunde (NOR) and Peter Tranckle (GBR), led by myself, Bianca Franzoi. We started directly with the first TC Meeting in Vienna (AUT) held on 17 & 18 January, discussing key topics and setting the strategic direction for the next four years, emphasising growth, increased participation and visibility. A significant goal is to develop a simplified version of the rules and a starter package for new clubs and countries, making TeamGym more accessible worldwide.

Our main event this year is of course the TeamGym Europeans, to be held in the Finnish city of Espoo from 14 to 17 October 2026. We had a productive coordination meeting on site last weekend. All parties involved are eager to provide the athletes with the best possible conditions, and treat the audience to a magnificent show!

Increasing the visibility is also important for us. Thanks to former TC member Inara Israfilbayova for creating the official European Gymnastics TeamGym Facebook and Instagram pages. We invite everyone to support this initiative—share, tag, and add us to your stories and posts and we will share if they meet our guidelines!

2025 marked the start of a fresh competition cycle. It’s been a year since the introduction of the new Code of Points now, and the first major competitions have already taken place. We are pleased to announce that there is now an Italian version of the Code of Points available on the European Gymnastics Intranet.

Any questions about the Code of Points can now be submitted via the European Gymnastics Webpage using the new Q&A google form. Visit the website to post any questions.

In addition to the Q&A, a comprehensive judges list is now accessible on the TeamGym Webpage. This resource helps keep everyone updated on qualified judges across Europe. Additionally, the TC is working on an online version of the Judges’ Logbook for major events (Mid European, Nordic and European Championships). Judges who participated in the Mid European and Nordic Championships in November 2025 have already been listed with their respective roles and qualifications.

  • Judges course ongoing:

The third brevet judge course is progressing smoothly. Currently 24 judges from 12 federations were participating in the online training, working towards their European Gymnastics TeamGym Brevet (2025–2028 cycle). The online sessions have already been held, and the upcoming in-person weekend in Berlin promises valuable hands-on experience.

  • New Educational Resource: ABC for Floor

An updated "ABC for Floor" is now available on the TeamGym webpage. This educational tool, complete with videos, helps coaches better interpret the Code of Points and understand key concepts visually and textually.

Preparations are in full swing for the European Championships taking place from 14 to 17 October 2026 in Espoo (FIN). The Finnish Gymnastics Federation is busy with event preparations. They have shown their readiness as we met in the Espoo Metro Areena for a coordination meeting between all stakeholders. The venue is big and beautiful, and the perfect place to show off TeamGym. Ticket sales started last October, and are going strong. Make sure you get your tickets as we want a full house!
