Welcome back to the Aerobics Europeans in Antalya’s Gymnastics Center, named in honour of Ibrahim Colak, Türkiye’s first men’s artistic World Champion! On the programme this morning: all junior finals.
Starting the day, the Individual Women caused immediate excitement. With the top 3 scores within 0.050 of each other, the delegations sat on the edge of their seat, watching the drama unfold. Posting the higher artistry score, Portugal’s Leonor Januario claimed the victory, edging past Italy’s Guenda Cherubini and Spain’s Martina Gil Olmeda who both posted 18.750. Their execution score determined the results. Silver for Cherubini, bronze for Gil Olmeda.
In Individual Men, the level displayed showed us exactly how talented these gymnasts are. Aleksandar Mishinkov (BUL) and Nacho Viguer (ESP) earned the same execution and difficulty scores but the young Bulgarian excelled in artistry, receiving top-notch points of 9.000. Victory for Mishinkov! Silver goes to Viguer with Finland’s Sampo Nousiainen in third place.
Immediately after, Nousiainen partnered with Jade Sirvioe in the Mixed Pairs final. Posting the highest difficulty and execution scores, the Finnish duo delighted the audience with their sparkling performance. Their reward? The European title! Back on the podium as well were Aleksandar Mishinkov, who earned the silver with partner Hristiyana Zlatanova for Bulgaria, and Spanish pair Martina Gil Olmeda and Nacho Viguer who are returning home with the bronze medal.
In the second part of these junior finals, Romania rose to the occasion winning all three available titles: Trios, Groups and Aerobic Dance! First, the Romanian Trio clinched gold ahead of Spain while the host nation Türkiye earned the bronze medal in a nail-biting battle with Hungary. As their total and execution score were equal, the artistry note decided the ranking.
In the Groups final, Romania posted the highest difficulty and artistry for yet another win. Finland edged past France for the silver medal by just 0.050. Romania clinched today’s hattrick in Aerobic Dance where they beat Hungary and Italy.
Congratulations to the junior medallists!
