WTC President Anca Mihailescu-Grigoras honoured by the Nik Stuart Foundation’s Hall of Fame

At the recent Technical Committee meeting in London, European Gymnastics’ Women’s Technical Committee President Anca Mihailescu-Grigoras was inducted to the Nik Stuart Foundation’s Hall of Fame, Class of 2022. The award was presented by Mike Stewart and Sue Tredgold, who delivered the following speech:

Anca began her training at the age of 9, at the Onesti "Flacara" sports club, and in 1972 moved to Club Sportiv Dinamo Bucuresti.  She was twice Romanian national champion in 1972 and 1973, and made her Olympic debut in Munich 1972.

She was a member of the legendary Romanian team that won the Silver Medal at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal and also the Team Silver at the 1978 World Championships in Strasbourg.

Individually, Anca was also Bronze Medallist on Beam at the 1973 European Championships in Wembley.

After retiring from competition, Anca coached gymnasts at her native club, and was a national coach and a technical director at the Romanian Gymnastics Federation. 

As an international judge, Anca was a Member of the UEG Women’s Technical Committee from 1993-2005, and from 2005 to 2008 served as a member of the FIG WTC.  In 2009 she returned to the UEG, more recently re-named European Gymnastics, where since 2018 she has been WTC President and is a current member of the Executive Committee.

She has received the Romanian honours of Emeritus Master of Sport, Emeritus Trainer, and in 2000 was awarded the National Cross for "Faithful Service
